Information
Date: May 19th
Time: 10 a.m.
Dress: Dress for colder water temperatures
Place: Chota Canoe Club Kayak Launch at Concord Cove FIshing Piers
Chota will be resuming our litter clean-up of our adopted kayak launch through the Adopt-A-Park program, and then participate in a nice paddle out past Rocky Point. We will paddle by the historic village of Concord, where cormorants are usually found diving for their food. Cormorants can dive as far as 150 ft down to catch their fish. Occasionally they will follow kayakers because we help to stir up the fish. We will pass by two marina's along the way. Once we paddle under the Pellissippi Bridge we will feel like we are in a different world, paddling through creek areas with ample wildlife and rock formations. A truly beautiful paddle. Come out and help us keep our kayak launch area litter-free, and enjoy a nice paddle afterwards. Depending on the participants, we can leave from our launch area and paddle down sinking creek and back (approximately 8-9 miles), or leave from Rocky Point and paddle there and back (approximately 6 miles).
NOTE: The canoe/kayak launch is located beside Concord Cove Fishing Piers (11550 Northshore Drive). Once you have gone through the traffic circle on Northshore it will be your very first entrance on the right (Concord Cove Fishing Piers). Head down towards Piers and turn right. At the end of road is kayak launch.
