Information
Trip Leader: Kim Abney
Section 8 of the French Broad begins below the Redmon Dam and takes out at Barnard, the putin for Section 9. Meet at 10:30 at the Redmon dam river access. Section 8 of the French Broad is approximately 5 miles long. This is one of only a few sections of the French Broad without a road running alongside it. After putting-on at the river access below Redmon Dam, the river winds through a beautiful gorge interspersed with historic farms and forested mountains. There are train tracks along this section, but trains are infrequent overall. This is a good section for new paddlers with small rapids and plenty of eddylines to work on skills. Bring lunch, snacks and something to drink. Expect to be on the water for about 4 hours. There is a possibility to see bears, deer, eagles, osprey, otters, and beavers. If there is enough interest we can eat in Hotsprings after the paddle. Contact Kim Abney if you have any questions (kim@butlerabney.org).
