August 18th -Nantahala *Lite*, Class II/III Whitewater Training Trip
From Aug 18, 2024, 10:30 AM ET to Aug 18, 2024, 4:00 PM ET
Closed!

Information

Trip Leader:  Frankie Burger

Meet at Farabee Memorial Picnic Area at 10:30 am, set shuttle and then we will work and play hard down to Nantahala Falls (optional).

This segment is approximatly 5 miles long, rather than the full 8.5 miles if we had launched above Patton's Run.

Address: 18100 Hwy 19 W, Bryson City, NC 28713

Experience necessary to determine suitability: The Nantahala is a fun river, especially as your skills and comfort levels increase. Beware the water is cold, and gets colder still if it rains.  Bring appropriate layers and have dry clothes for when you are finished.  This river is known for excellent eddy hopping, ferrying, and fun wave trains. Take care, paddlers often play hard and then are at the bottom of their energy stores for the last rapid of the day-Nantahala Falls, a class III rapid. The key to a successful day on this river: pick a skill to practice, conserve your energy, and monitor your temperature.

You must have a river pass. You may purchase a day pass or annual pass from NOC. Please have that situated before meet-up time.

Required gear: Coast guard approved PFD, whitewater canoe or kayak with floatation, skirt for your kayak, water sports helmet, paddle, appropriate clothing for the water’s temperature, closed toes shoes (no water sandals), water bottle that clips into your boat.

Bring your lunch in a dry bag.

Registration opens the Saturday prior to the paddling date, and closes Thursday at 10pm. You are welcome to email the trip leader, connect with them via Facebook Messenger, or email the Club for more information about the river.

Once you register, make sure you receive an automatic email with exact meet up time, location, and any other special details. If you do not, email the trip leader, contact them on Facebook messenger, or email the Club.
