Information
Paddle to Burgess Falls
When: Saturday, May 3
Have you ever wanted to get up close to the bottom of a 136 foot waterfall? Now is your chance! Please join us for an exciting flat-water paddling trip to Burgess Falls. The bottom of Burgess Falls is ONLY accessible by boat - you cannot hike to the bottom. So to see this beautiful natural wonder up close, you must paddle to it. And May through mid to late June is the best time of year, with enough water to paddle all the way to the bottom of the falls. There is a rocky bank to the right of the falls (as you are facing the falls) where we can eat lunch and sun bath. You might need to tether your boat to a tree, so please bring a tether line as well as you lunch.
I made this trip last May with some friends and had a blast! The best part was paddling right up to the bottom of the falls and touching the rock behind the falls. Having mist from the falls cool my face & body on a hot May day was also wonderful!
Burgess Falls is located south of Cookeville, TN and is about a 2 hour drive from Knoxville.
There are 2 possible launch sites:
1) Cane Hollow Recreation Area Boat Ramp, a 4.2 mile round trip to Burgess Falls.
2) Cookeville Boat Dock, a 10.7 mile round trip to Burgess Falls.
We will decide on a launch site and start time depending on the desires of the folks who want to paddle to Burgess Falls.
