The launch is at an obscure NOC outpost. If the link doesn’t open for you, search “Lover’s Leap Trail” and park near the water and not the trailhead.
We can take out at 7 miles near Paint Rock for a milder day and then hike to see Paint Rock. https://maps.app.goo.gl/bKdwaVwGUvHe5e7i7?g_st=ic
Or we can paddle the full FB10 for 13 miles, taking out at Wolf Creek boat access. https://maps.app.goo.gl/qLevB7y5GGYbYqK17?g_st=ic
What to bring
A high five for your paddle buddies
Lunch
Tons of water
Rain shell
The other obvious stuff.
Section 10 of the French Broad is our spot for a low-key, high-scenery day on the water. We all love pushing our lines, but this run with Frankie is strictly about logging quality river miles, catching up in the eddies, and enjoying the gorge without the stress of more intense rivers. With manageable Class II wave trains and rapids it’s the perfect stretch to enjoy the flow, work your hips so the boat does the work, and remember why we fell in love with simply being on the river.
The goal is to spend the day comfortably on top of the water enjoying the flow, not swimming in it while pushing for your next skill level jump. Whether you’re in a kayak, canoe, or inflatable, if you have foundational boat control and want an easygoing, beautiful day on the water, your skill set is a great fit for this trip.
P.S. Frankie has paddled this once. It was pretty amazing, but she doesn’t have all of the feature characteristics memorized. Let the adventure begin!
